Silica fume is an ultra-fine mineral product, an amorphous form of silicon dioxide, which is a byproduct recovered from electric furnaces during the smelting of ferrosilicon alloys and industrial silicon. The raw materials are silica, coal and wood chips. During the smelting process, a large amount of highly volatile SiO2 and Si gases are produced in the electric furnace, which are rapidly oxidized and condensed by the air after being discharged.
